Upper Level - Ayurveda 1 (46 hours)

Ayurveda & Yogic Lifestyle Training

This training is part of our upper level training, and can be taken by teachers earning their 300 hour certificate, or students who wish to learn more about the practices of Ayurveda and Yoga for their own self-study and knowledge. It is designed to expand one’s knowledge of Ayurveda, the ancient healing science of India, and its relationship to yoga. Students will be introduced to fundamental concepts of Ayurveda. Please note, this is not an Ayurvedic practitioner certification. This training includes essential teachings of Ayurveda we believe all yoga teachers and students of yoga should possess for themselves, or their students. Students will learn how to use Ayurveda in their own lives. Classes will include discussion, lecture, hands on learning, classes, group projects, and cooking or curating of Ayurvedic recipes for self-care.
Prerequisite: Those requesting CEC’s or hours towards 300 hour training certification with Yoga Alliance must have completed their 200 hour level 1 certification with a Yoga Alliance accredited program. 

Curriculum includes:

  • Basic history and philosophy of Ayurveda

  • The 5 elements, guna, dosha, dhatu, mala, agni/ama

  • Hatha yoga and pranayama practices for balancing the doshas and elements

  • Ayurvedic lifestyle practices for health and balance

Pathway to Presence: Finding Your Seat

Pathway to Presence is for both students and teachers of yoga and meditation, beginners or otherwise. Dramatically deepen your ability to meditate through the living practices of ShambhavAnanda Meditation. Unpack the foundational philosophy of ShambhavAnanda Meditation through skillful and engaging presentations. Be empowered with chaitanya (living) practices— passed down from teacher to student over 4 generations of masters and over a century of ashram tradition. Receive personalized feedback and support from experienced teachers. Students will meet twice per month as a group, once online. In addition, students are offered monthly check-ins with our resident Swami, Swami Priyananda, and weekly check-ins with lead trainer, Amber Davey. ***This mentorship meets the 6 month prerequisite requirement for the Level 1 Meditation Teacher Training in the Shambhavananda tradition offered in the Spring.

Prana & Presence: Exploring Energy, Interoception & Advanced Teaching

Prana & Presence covers advanced teacher skills, ethics of touch, verbal adjusting and use of props. Students will also learn how to use marma points for themselves and students, as well as specific poses and sequences which enliven marma points. A variety of assessment techniques for use with private yoga clients will enhance and expand the teacher’s ability to work one on one with more students. With support, discussion, engaging presentations and practical applications, students will deepen their own understanding on how to care for the mind and body and support their own growth using ancient techniques in a modern world. Personal mentoring is offered to each trainee to level up on teaching skills! This training is one of our 300 hour upper level modules. Also offered as 60 hours of CEC’s for other yoga teachers, or an opportunity to audit for students of yoga. Prerequisites: 200 RYT, 2-5 years experience, or permission from lead trainers.

Illuminating the Path: Foundations in Meditation

Illuminating the Path will dramatically deepen your ability to meditate and gain the capacity to enrich the lives of others through the living practices of ShambhavAnanda Meditation. Unpack the foundational philosophy of ShambhavAnanda Meditation through skillful and engaging presentations. Study and interpret ancient texts such as the 2,000 year old Yoga Sutras and 1,000 year old Shiva Sutras, as well as ShambhavAnanda lineage Satsang texts from Sri ShambhavAnanda, Swami Muktananda and Swami Rudrananda. Students will feel empowered with chaitanya (living) practices— passed down from teacher to student over 4 generations of masters and over a century of ashram tradition. Personalized feedback from experienced teachers on all presentations and every guided meditation is provided. Training curriculum includes: what is ShambhavAnanda meditation, foundational meditation practices including breath awareness, mantra repetition and surrender, philosophy of the mind, teaching skills for beginning level meditation. Deepen your experience of meditation as practiced in ShambhavAnanda Yoga. Prerequisite: 6 months to 1 year experience of practicing ShambhavAnanda Yoga Meditation, or approval from both trainers for those choosing to audit (for students who do not wish to teach others). This course is also eligible for 30 Hours CEC's with Yoga Alliance. Illuminating the Path is also the prerequisite to Meditation II (Illuminating the Self).

200 Hour Level 1 Teacher Training

Hatha Yoga Teacher Training

The journey begins here! Whether you wish to teach others, or deepen your own practice and understanding of yoga philosophy and tools, our Level 1 Yoga Teacher Training is designed to guide students to the innermost Self, and experience more joy and compassion in their daily lives. This training will teach students a solid understanding of how to do postures with correct alignment and knowledge of biomechanics, cue alignment and biomechanics, and modify postures for all bodies. Students will also be exposed to and learn how to teach basic pranayama practices, become sensitive to the pranic breath and experience its subtlety.  This training will also teach students to develop body reading skills, learn to actively engage with student populations and refine cueing in response to what is being observed.

  Curriculum includes:

  • Brief introduction to Ayurveda and special topics such as pregnancy, elderly, kids, restorative, etc.

  • To learn how to prepare for a drop-in class and develop a longer 4-6 wk. course

  • To learn how to effectively modify postures, using props as necessary

  •  To understand the relationship of the pranic breath to physical postures and the mind and to be able to effectively use the breath to release tension and restore balance.

  • To be able to teach basic pranayama exercises (Ujjayi, Full Yogic, 2 part Diaphragmatic Breathing, Nadi Sodhana)

  • To understand how to develop posture flows for particular purposes
